Lighthouses tend to capture my romantic imagination of not only the structure itself, but the people who run and operate them. They’re a massive historical manmade landmark lodged at the shore in the middle of nature and intended to last forever. I like to imagine that the people who choose to operate the lighthouses tend to take on the personalities of them. I like to imagine a wistful romantic stuck in a tower, or a spurned lover destined to live in a tower of their own making. Some lighthouses look like home, others look like a federal prison. Most lighthouses now run mechanically, or a lot of them have been decommissioned due to better GPS technologies, but the history and structures remain. I created this collection and focused on the lighthouses of the Great Lakes. There are so many lighthouses in this area, and these are just a few that fascinated me. I plan to add to this collection throughout 2026.
