As promised, here’s another collection of lighthouses of the Great Lakes. I’ve included lighthouses that look like prisons, and others that feel like home. Some lighthouses earn a spot on the trip itinerary, while others are just a blink along a highway, and others are isolated on an island. Functionally, lighthouses are beacons of light that warn ships of the rocky shore, sand bar, or any other naturally occurring structure that could be a hazard that could ground a ship. Naturally, they represent safety and guidance sending beams of light over cold water. It’s a lot like getting up to go to the bathroom while camping late at night. Before leaving the tent, I grab the flashlight and send the light over where I plan to go. It’s a beacon of light in the dark, and depending on how remote the campsite, I’m happy to have the beam of light in addition to whatever cycle the waning and waxing moon happens to be in. I’m not done yet, and there will be more.
